WTIA Rolls out a Diversity Focused Apprenticeship Program
Posted by Hughes Media Law Group
Diversity in tech is a hot and important topic. We’ve written about it on our blog and last week Geekwire posted a jovial, but eye opening, article on Amazon’s incapacity to accommodate all of its male workers with enough bathrooms. Our friends in other large, modern and high-tech companies (who will remain unnamed!) complain of similar issues.
Luckily, through the efforts of the Washington Technology Industry Association (WTIA), Washington is the first state to create a sponsored apprenticeship program that focuses on underserved populations. The apprenticeship aims to fill the tech sector’s high demand for labor while remaining committed to ensuring a diverse workforce. Accepted candidates will receive 3-4 months of pre-apprenticeship training followed by a one-year apprenticeship at a large tech firm (we are happy to see our client F5 is a participant!!).
